Money Is the Root of All Evil… Or Is It?

2–3 minutes

read

We’ve all heard that phrase tossed around — usually with a sigh and a shake of the head:
“Money is the root of all evil.”

It’s been repeated so many times that most people don’t even question it anymore. But here’s a thought… what if that belief is quietly holding us back from the very freedom we’re working for?

Think about it — how do you feel when you hear the word money?
Does it bring up excitement? Or tension? Guilt, maybe?

For a lot of people, money feels complicated. They want it, but they also don’t want to want it too much. And that tug-of-war often comes from this old saying that’s been passed down for generations — a saying that was never quite true in the first place.

The Misunderstanding That Changed Everything

The original phrase wasn’t “money is the root of all evil.”
It was “the love of money is the root of all evil.”
Somewhere along the way, the middle part got lost — and that small omission has had a massive impact.

Money isn’t evil. It’s a mirror. It reflects the person holding it.
In the hands of someone generous, it builds schools, supports families, and feeds dreams.
In the hands of someone fearful or greedy, it does the opposite.

When we stop seeing money as a monster and start seeing it as a magnifier, we unlock the potential to do more good than we ever imagined.

A Question Worth Asking

So maybe the real question isn’t “Is money evil?”
Maybe it’s “What will money reveal about me?”

That’s the shift that changes everything — not just financially, but spiritually and emotionally too.

In my book, Change Your Words, Change Your World, I explore how phrases like this one shape the way we think, live, and limit ourselves without realizing it. When we challenge these half-truths, we open the door to a much fuller, freer version of life.

If that idea sparks your curiosity — if you’ve ever wondered what other sayings might be quietly shaping your world — you’ll love the journey this book takes you on.
