You Don't Need to Move Faster—You Need a Destination

February 6, 2026 · James Hennis

Every day, I take time to write. Over more than twenty-five years, I’ve come to understand that writing is not something I force. It happens naturally.

There are moments in life when we need to reset the GPS. Most of us have experienced this while driving — the signal drops, and suddenly it’s sending you down a back road, farther from where you intended to go. What’s interesting is how quickly we follow it.

Without realizing it, we do the same thing in life. We stay in motion, but we stop checking the destination. And because we are moving, it feels like progress, even when it isn’t.

Before we can be found, we must know what we are aiming for. Gratitude is not passive. It is the posture of receiving what is, right now. It stabilizes us, grounds us, keeps us present. But gratitude alone does not create movement.

Gratitude paired with action does. That is when belief turns into evidence. That is when intention becomes reality.

So today, take a moment to look at your map. Your self-development and self-care. Your relationships. Your career and contribution. Your growth, learning, and service.

Ask yourself, not casually, but intentionally: Have I chosen where I am going, or am I simply moving?

Choose the destination. Study the map. Be grateful for where you are. And then move forward with intention.
