For many years, writing was my private sanctuary. It was a tool for personal cleansing—a way to pour my thoughts onto the page, express the unspoken, and simply let them go. It was a solitary act of survival and clarity.
While that remains the most authentic way for me to engage with the written word, my perspective has shifted. I’ve realized that there is a profound joy in serving others through these reflections. I share these thoughts today with a simple intention: if only one person receives a blessing from this, then every minute spent crafting these words was worth it.
I’ve come to realize that purpose is understood only when we embellish presence. There is a specific line I want to share with you. I invite you to sit with it, repeat it, and allow it to resonate within your own space:
“To be present, is to fill the moment with presence.”
Imagine a magnificent stained-glass window in a dark room. The window is the “moment”—it has all the potential for beauty, color, and story. But without the sun, it is just cold, dark glass.
Presence is the light. When the sun hits that glass, the colors wake up. The patterns dance across the floor. The “moment” was always there, but it only becomes alive, vibrant, and meaningful when it is filled with the light of your attention. To be present is to be the sun that turns the glass into a masterpiece.
Expanding the Lens
When we pull back the lens and look at the bigger picture of our lives, we see that the quality of our presence is often dictated by the quality of our internal dialogue.
If you’re looking to explore how the very structure of your language can transform your mindset, I invite you to dive into my book, Change your Words, Change your World.
Beyond just changing your outlook, this book serves as a roadmap for reclaiming your narrative. It’s about moving from being a passive narrator of your life to being its conscious creator, ensuring that every word you speak adds “presence” to your moments rather than draining them away.
Wishing you success,
James Hennis
